Hugo López-Gatell, subsecretario de Prevención y Promoción de la Salud, explicó que hasta el momento el Covid-19 no representa una emergencia económica o social en el país.
El funcionario dijo que de acuerdo con un análisis científico, la propagación del coronavirus no cumple con los criterios ya que no hay casos de infecciones graves, de mortalidad alta o que afecte a sectores funcionales para México.
“Determinamos que no hay evidencia que sugiera que esto es una emergencia nacional, no deja de ser una epidemia, como lo es, como hay otras epidemias, pero no representa una amenaza en términos sanitarios ni términos sociales o económicos”, sostuvo López-Gatell en conferencia de prensa.
El subsecretario también puntualizó que el coronavirus no nació en un laboratorio para ser usada como un arma biológica, como se ha referido en diversos sitios en internet.
Detalló que la mayoría de las ocasiones, cuando surge una epidemia, los prejuicios sobre poblaciones migrantes suele acentuarse motivadas por el miedo y la ignorancia.
Enfatizó que el origen etnico o genético de las personas no tiene nada que ver con la propagación de la nueva enfermedad.
