En las celebraciones del Día Mundial contra la Hepatitis 2018, la OMS se centrará en el tema “Pruebas. Tratamiento. Hepatitis.”
La hepatitis es una enfermedad del hígado provocada por el virus de la hepatitis B (VHB) y provoca lesiones en el hígado y altera su funcionamiento.Cundo se padeces este tipo de hepatitis, las personas corren un mayor riesgo de morir a causa de cirrosis hepática y cáncer de hígado.

El Día Mundial contra la Hepatitis, celebrado el 28 de julio, es una campaña organizada principalmente por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) en la que se busca la lucha internacional contra la hepatitis, alentar la actuación y la participación de personas, asociados y público, y hacer conciencia en la necesidad de una mayor respuesta mundial, como se explica en el Informe mundial sobre la hepatitis publicado por la OMS.
La campaña mundial contra la Hepatitis se realiza desde el año 2013 y se eligió el 28 de julio por ser el día del nacimiento del Dr. Baruch Blumberg, laureado con el Premio Nobel, que descubrió el virus de la hepatitis B e inventó una prueba diagnóstica y la vacuna.
Uno de sus principales objetivos de esta campaña anual es la eliminación mundial de la hepatitis para 2030, ya que la baja cobertura de las pruebas diagnósticas y del tratamiento se han convertido en un problema para la erradicación del virus.
Este año la camapña contra la hepatitis se ha enfocado en el tema “Pruebas, Tratamiento y Hepatitis” donde los eventos y las actividades de la OMS tienen los objetivos de, respaldar la expansión de los servicios de prevención, diagnóstico, tratamiento y atención a la hepatitis, prestando especial atención a las recomendaciones de la OMS, exponer las prácticas óptimas y fomentar la cobertura universal de los servicios relacionados con las hepatitis y mejorar las alianzas y la financiación de la lucha contra las hepatitis víricas.
